I had the most wonderful adventure this weekend with my kids. We camped in our van Saturday night in my brother's driveway, unbeknownst to him. We surprised him & his sweet family Sunday morning & they invited us to stay the night and I felt so at home, away from home. My brother has been travelling the world getting his education and moved close to us 2 years ago for the first time in 10 years (& he's my only sibling). This weekend was full of long chats & laughs & putting a trampoline together. I am so grateful that they let me be a part of their family for a bit & so grateful I have a sister-in-law that is more like a sister than an in-law and that didn't freak out that we surprised them & loved all of us deeply. When we went to leave my four year old niece turned to me and sweetly said "I thought you were going to stay forever" (That could sound not good, but it was definitely in a "I want you to stay forever" tone) I feel so completely blessed.

ReplyDeleteHa, ha! What a surprise that must have been for your brother! I think I might have to try this sometime on my brother or sister... though getting the five of us there would be no small feat!
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely tricky & my husband had no desire to sleep in the van with us, which is why we sleep in family's driveways for safety, but it can be done!
